Principal's Message

 “Parents are children’s first teacher.”
               Home of the Braves!

Dear Families and Learning Partners,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of San Pasqual Valley Elementary School and to join this extraordinary school community. I hope that your summer has been restful and rejuvenating and that you and your children are looking forward to beginning a wonderful school year together.

My arrival at San Pasqual Valley is as a seasoned county office administrator and professional learning specialist. The 2022-2023 school year will mark my 22nd year in education. Since graduating from San Diego State University, I have had the opportunity to train thousands of teachers and school leaders in a variety of topics including foundational reading skills, language arts and writing, equity and inclusive practices, social and emotional learning, health and physical education, and arts education. Though I’ll be meeting many of you for the first time, I have been working with teachers and leaders in this district since 2006 through my former role at Imperial County Office of Education. Getting to know this school community through that long-time partnership is what drew me to this leadership role. The elementary principalship provides me the chance to work collaboratively with teachers and families on a daily basis, while also remaining connected to young people learning and growing in the classroom. I honor you for the role you play as your child’s first teacher and firmly believe each child can excel when the partnership between home and school is strong. This builds confidence in students to use their powers to shape their future and the future of the community for generations to come.

This year, my priorities are focused in three areas: cultivating a safe and positive environment, boosting attendance rates, and accelerating literacy learning. In the conversations I have been having with members of the community, school safety has been a topic concern. We are committed to ensuring that our school is secure, orderly, clean, and welcoming so that students and teachers can focus on learning. We will also continue our efforts to help students feel empowered and connected to school through our focus on social and emotional learning. Attending school regularly is essential and puts students in a position to be successful. We ask for your support in getting students to school on time, everyday.

Finally, our teachers will work diligently to assess students strengths and needs in order to support and accelerate learning. We will strive to provide engaging and effective curriculum and instruction to see growth in each student.

I look forward to meeting you and working together to make it a great year!

Sincerely,

Q. Givens-Jarvis
San Pasqual Valley Elementary School Principal
